When you receive your research papers today, do not fear. Most students do fail on their first attempt at a research paper. I expected these grades; however, I also expect that each student will hone in on those troubles I have highlighted in their papers to correct them. We will focus on revising the papers and polishing them before the final draft. Remember you have this blog full of resources to edit your research and this compilation of research, grammar, and writing videos. I highly recommend that when you return home over spring break you do the following:
- Research more on literary criticism and literary impact of your author.
- Many of you did not include the importance of the author's writing at all.
- Many of you did not include what literary devices, style, or literary period the author employs and belongs to.
- Use the NPR radio broadcast I have posted as a guide of excellent literary criticism.
- Make sure you have analysis and sentences that YOU have generated with your opinions and conclusions based on the research you have completed.
- Correct all sentences that I have labeled "run on," "fragment," and/or "confusing."
- Make the sentences say something good before you worry about grammar and punctuation.
- Make sure sentences have AT LEAST one and AT MOST two subjects and predicates.
- Correct grammar and punctuation.
- Correct and ADD all citations for everything that did not come originally from your head.
- Read aloud BACKWARDS for mistakes and POLISH.
- Set up an appointment with Mrs. Heck to look over your revised draft BEFORE the day before the final due date.
To lift your spirits, not Return of the Jedi, but still Star Wars nonetheless:
One goal for this English class that I have this year is to always stay on top of my work and past without having any doubts to also understand everything that is taught.
