Letter Home to Parents: Senior Project Update

Parents of Seniors: Be expecting the following letter in the mail! Thanksgiving allows the students a good chunk of time off; make sure they use it wisely! It's time to crunch in those Senior Project Product Hours!

letter after the jump...

November 6, 2012

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are over half-way through your child’s senior English course! Congratulations on encouraging your student in his/her success thus far. Now is the time that I would like to remind you of your student’s responsibilities for the Senior Project graduation requirement.

Firstly, the Senior Project, while graded and scored in English, is a graduation requirement. This means that regardless of his/her score in my English course, the Senior Project will be treated as an assessment for graduation. The majority of the work for the Senior Project should be completed in the student’s own time, not during the school day. As stated in the original distributed letter, “The purpose of the Senor Project is to give students an opportunity to integrate knowledge from across the curriculum and to exhibit the skills they have acquired, particularly in oral and written communication.” I have instructed all students on the proper format for all forms and assignments as thoroughly as the classroom allows.  Now the hours creating a product and being shaped by a mentor must be completed outside of school, in your child’s personal time. With the holidays approaching, students should use this time to focus on their projects and catch-up on any missed deadlines.

Please remind your student of the importance of this project. Beyond graduating, the skills and techniques he/she is learning will enable your child’s success in the post-high school world. Below, you will find a list of those assignments that should have already been turned in by your child and those assignments whose due dates are fast approaching.
