Outlines --> First Draft!

In class, we followed the questions on the outline handout to create a solid thesis statement. Remember, it should look something like this:

YOUR AUTHOR is STRONG ADJECTIVES OR DESCRIPTIVE PHRASE because of WHATEVER YOUR PARAGRAPHS ARE ABOUT.
For example:
J.R.R. Tolkien wrote the first monumental mythology for England through his imaginary Middle Earth by incorporating traditional English and European folklore, his personal experiences of agrarian to Industrial England, and the first World War in comprehensive fantasy novels and short stories.
Key:
 first supporting paragraphsecond supporting paragraph, third supporting paragraph, and fourth supporting paragraph.

After you write your MEANINGFUL thesis statement, just take your outline and turn it into your draft. Follow these steps:
  1. Make sure every bullet of your outline is a COMPLETE SENTENCE.
  2. Make sure every FACT or DETAIL that you got from your notecards and research has a PARENTHETICAL CITATION at the end of the sentence.
    1. The parenthetical citation is on the top right corner of your index note cards.
    2. Use the OWL Purdue for more info and reference.
  3. Each Roman numeral serves as the separation between paragraphs. Simply erase each of the bullets, letters, and numbers and create full paragraphs. Once you have paragraphs, you have a drafted paper!
  4. Remember to use quotation marks and transition phrases around the direct quotes from your sources. Check out this blogpost to help you with properly incorporating information.
  5. Remember to create a Works Cited page in proper MLA format so you are not plagiarizing!

    1. We began to transform our outlines on Friday with making sure each line was a good sentence. We will have the COWs on this coming Thursday, so make sure to bring your outline/notecards. I will let you know all you need to know in person. You can also feel free to check out the following website for some extremely detailed steps to the writing process in video format: http://education-portal.com/academy/course/college-composition-writing-course.html
